Hail falls as cold storm system passes through SLO County

Motorists heading along Highway 101 near Tassajara Creek Road encountered hail around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, the result of a cold storm system blowing through San Luis Obispo County.

Scattered showers and the possibility of hail will continue through Thursday night. The snow level has dropped to 2,000 feet because of the cold air, meaning snow showers and a dusting of snow is possible overnight along the Santa Lucia Range.

Temperatures overnight will be in the mid-30s in San Luis Obispo and along the coastline and the mid-20s in the North County. Frost is expected and patchy fog could develop in the North County.

Cool but dry conditions are expected Friday. Highs in San Luis Obispo and the beaches will be in the mid-50s, while the North County's highs will remain in the 40s.

Clear and cool conditions will continue into Saturday and Sunday, according to PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey. He says forecasts indicate dry weather continuing through the end of January and possibly into February.
